400 Tips & Tricks | Part 23Dirt Rider
  1. Downshift early and let your bike's compression braking help slow you.

  2. Hardwire a charger cord to your bike's battery for simple charger hookups between rides.

  3. When installing bearings, if you freeze them, they'll contract and drop in easier.

  4. If your worn graphics begin to peel up, tack them down with some clear fingernail polish.

  5. Never land with the brakes on when landing from a high-speed jump.

  6. A cool maneuver when walking around a switchback is to hold the front brake, push down on the fork to get the rear wheel up, and guide it around with your hip.

  7. For flat turns, sit on the outside of your seat. You want pressure down on the tires, not pressure trying to make them push out from under you.

  8. Use motorcycle battery jumper cables if jump-starting your battery (from another bike, not a car).

  9. Bleeding your front brake"backward" by pushing fresh fluid in from the bottom will lessen the chance of getting air into the system.

  10. "For footpeg cotter pins, get stainless steel. Those are definitely the best. They're kind of a pain to put on, but they'll take a beating and won't come off." —Brian Krantz, Eli Tomac's mechanic
