Honda was the first Japanese manufacturer to jump on the street-legal dirt bike bandwagon, and remains the only brand from the Land of the Rising Sun to have such a model in its motorcycle range. The CRF450RL came to market in 2019 (then called the CRF450L) and competes with other high-performance dual sports from the likes of KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, and Beta.
The CRF450RL shares many similarities with Honda’s 50-state year-round off-road-legal model of the same displacement, the CRF450X. Some shared components between them are a fuel-injected liquid-cooled SOHC four-stroke 450cc single-cylinder engine, Showa 49mm coil-spring fork, Showa shock, and aluminum twin-spar frame. Of course, the biggest difference between them is that the CRF450RL is street-legal, which allows riders to connect trails via pavement.

Honda claims the CRF450RL weighs 291 pounds with its 2-gallon fuel tank filled, which means it’s heaviest in the 430–511cc dual sport segment. The good news is the CRF450RL is the most affordable option in the category given its suggested retail price of $10,099, which didn’t increase over last year.
