Electric dirt bikes are increasing in popularity, and Husqvarna has unveiled its first full-size model called the Pioneer. It’s street-legal, but is designed to be ridden primarily off-road. Overall size is slightly smaller than a gas-powered dual sport such as the FE 350s and FE 501s, which was implemented into the design to help make it nimble, easy to ride, and to allow people of nearly all heights to be able to touch the ground.
This Austrian machine sends power to its rear wheel via a 50.4V Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that produces a claimed 25.7 hp and 37.6 Nm (27.7 lb.-ft.) of torque at peak. Husqvarna says the Pioneer tops out at 59 mph. There’s no clutch or gearbox, which helps people who are new to motorcycles learn how to ride one.
An interchangeable MX50 lithium-ion battery is said to allow for two to three hours of ride time and, using the included 660W charger, takes eight hours to fully recharge using a standard household supply. An optional 3.3kW power charger will be available in summer 2025, and it’s designed to fully recharge the Pioneer’s battery in less than two hours.
Major chassis components include a chromoly steel frame and aluminum and glass-fiber reinforced nylon subframe. For suspension, Husqvarna relies on a WP Xact AER 43mm fork and WP Xplor PDS (Progressive Damping System) shock. Brake levers are situated on the ProTaper handlebar—the rear on the left and front on the right.
Husqvarna hasn’t set a suggested retail price for the Pioneer as of this writing, but we should know in the near future as the white, blue, and yellow electric dual sport from Austria is scheduled to be in dealerships in January 2025.
