Kawasaki has unveiled its full-size motocross and off-road competition bike lineup for 2024 including the KX450, KX450X, KX250, and KX250X. The last time its KX450 saw a complete overhaul was in 2019. Five years later, the model that’s won four of the last five (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022) Dirt Rider 450 Motocross Shootouts is all-new, and the same goes for its cross-country sibling, the KX450X.

For starters, its fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC four-stroke 449cc engine features a different layout for the entire intake system. Valves have been shifted vertically to be symmetrical with the intake and exhaust ports, which were modified for straighter airflow and improved efficiency. According to Kawasaki, this results in improved power across the rpm range. Muffler has been moved inward toward the center of the bike for better peak power and controllability, while also allowing for slimmer bodywork. The same was done to the muffler to centralize mass.
Chassis-wise, Kawasaki developed a completely new aluminum perimeter frame with optimized stiffness and dimensions intended to help improve front end feel and traction, while retaining the highly praised handling character of the prior-generation model. New radiator shrouds and side number plates are said to allow riders to change body position more easily. The left side cover also features a new quick-release design for toolless air filter access. Rear fender shape is sharper as well.
Front brake duties are now tasked to a Brembo master cylinder and caliper, while Nissin components are still employed at the rear. Studio photos also show the KX450 will come with Dunlop’s recently released Geomax MX34 soft-to-intermediate-terrain tires.
Replacing the EFI coupler system used on Team Green’s flagship motocrosser since 2012 is a handlebar-mounted power mode and Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) switch. Riders can choose between two power modes (normal or mild response) and two levels of KTRC (strong or weak) or turn it off at the push of a button.

Another KX model first is the ability to adjust EFI mapping via a smartphone. With Rideology the App, users can connect to the bike via Bluetooth, then change fuel and ignition timing, and keep a maintenance log. Another new item in the control area are ODI lock-on grips in lieu of prior models’ glue-ons.
The 2024 Kawasaki KX450 will be available in fall 2023 for a suggested retail price of $10,399.
The KX450X cross-country racer features all of the same updates and new technology as the motocrosser of the same displacement, but with off-road-specific engine tuning, shorter gearing, softer suspension settings, and Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires. Like the KX450, it will be available in fall 2023, but for an extra $200 with a sticker price of $10,599.
