KTM first introduced its Freeride E electric motorcycle to the world in 2014. Back then, it was an enduro model. Now, just over a decade later, it’s completely overhauled and has morphed into a dual sport.
What’s new on the Freeride E for 2025? According to KTM, 99 percent of it. Powered by a 50.4V Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), the Freeride E is said to be good for 25.7 hp and 37.6 Nm of torque at peak. Claimed top speed is 59 mph.
KTM declares the motor is much quieter and cooler than before, and is both waterproof and dustproof. There are three ride modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport) and as many energy recuperation settings (off, mid, and high). Traction control is available, and a rollover sensor cuts power in the event of a crash.
An MX50 lithium-ion battery (that’s claimed to weigh 64 pounds) is interchangeable and has a 5kWh capacity—an increase of 1kWh over the previous Freeride E, which is said to provide 20 percent more riding time or distance. According to KTM, battery life can withstand over 1,000 charge cycles before dipping to 80 percent effectiveness. Typical enduro riding time is estimated to be two to three hours.
A 660W charger is included with the Freeride E, and it’s designed to complete a full charge in eight hours with a normal household supply. The Austrian manufacturer states an 80 percent charge can be reached in seven hours for those who just can’t wait to ride or don’t need a full charge for their planned route.
With nimble and light handling in mind, KTM developed a new chassis for the Freeride E that has altered geometry and a longer wheelbase for more comfort and stability, respectively. Suspension duties are tasked to a WP Xact AER 43mm fork and WP Xplor PDS (Progressive Damping System) shock, the latter of which features a brand new design and has optimized oil flow for a more consistent damping feel. Bearing seals are also new and have longer service intervals.
Price has yet to be announced, but we’ll know soon enough as the 2025 KTM Freeride E is set to hit showroom floors in the first month of 2025.
