Childress/Hengeveld Win BITD Terribles Town 250 - Dirt Rider Magazine

Honda's Mike Childress and Steve Hengeveld outclassed the field as they ran away with the Terrible's Town 250 in Pahrump, Nevada, round three of Best in the Desert's Silver State Series. The pair shared riding duties on their Berkeley Honda-prepped, Precision Concepts-suspended XR650R and set a torrid pace from the start."They were just going off of last year's times, and off the start to pit one I beat by 45 seconds," Hengeveld reported. (The 242-mile course repeated the 2005 circuit turn for turn but was rougher, according to participants, making it possible to compare times.) "I don't even know how . I was just trying to be smooth out there and trying not to make any mistakes. Everything went really well." They finished in four hours and nine minutes. The only other serious challenges faded or disappeared as each mile passed. First, fellow Open Pros Ty Davis and Russell Pearson had their Zip-Ty Racing YZ450F in second place from the start, but they suffered a mechanical DNF about halfway through. That moved Four-stroke Pro Chris Blais (riding solo, as is his usual practice in BITD races) into second on his Red Bull KTM 525 XC. His day came to an abrupt end when he crashed after the seventh of eight pit stops, though, knocking him out and giving him a DNF as well.Instead, it was the amazing Open Expert trio of Max Eddy, Jr., Chris Ray and Jeff Trulove passing all but one of the Pro teams that started ahead of them to earn overall motorcycle runner-up honors on their MSS Racing KTM thumper. They were almost 40 minutes back of Childress and Hengeveld.Four-stroke Pro-class winners Jim Finerty and Robby Woods claimed third bike overall on their John Burr Cycles YZ450F some six minutes behind the Open Experts. Fourth went to Brian Melsheimer and Matthew Zang, the runners-up in Open Expert on their Temecula Motorsports CRF450X about three minutes behind Finerty and Woods.Over 40 Pro winners Scott Glimp and Ron A. Purvines rounded out the top five motorcycles overall on their Motorex KTM 525 XC, despite finishing the race with a bad oil leak that rendered their rear brake inoperable over the last section.Terrible's Town Motorcycle Results, Top 10
