Daily Direct/HaulBikes Integrates GPS Tracking System - Dirt Rider Magazine

Press Release****Milwaukee-based motorcycle shipper integrates GPS tracking systemDaily Direct/HaulBikes, a shipper of motorcycles and other motorized sport vehicles such as jet-skis, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles, announced its decision to integrate navigation and communications technologies, which allows customers to track their shipment online. The new integrated electronic tracking system links HaulBikes with PeopleNet Communications, the fastest-growing provider of Internet-based, onboard computing and mobile communications systems. Through PeopleNet's Global Positioning System (GPS), a satellite-based navigation system allows HaulBikes drivers to have highly accurate directions, eliminating out-of-route mileage and reducing fuel consumption.HaulBikes plans to install GPS systems into its entire fleet of semi trucks, which are each already equipped with a custom strapping system designed and tested to protect against damage and wear when hauling motorcycles cross-country within the 48 states. With the integration of the GPS system, HaulBikes trucks are individually tracked via satellite and customers are given an order tracking number that can be typed into the HaulBikes-PeopleNet linked webpage. "These `real time' updates are similar to the way FedEx and UPS shipments are scanned at shipment transfer checkpoints, with barcodes providing a tracking log for the customer to reference," explained Ken Durik, owner of Daily Direct/HaulBikes. "In our case, customers can sign up to get automatic e-mail update, or log in to our website and use their order tracking number to see where their motorcycle is at any given transfer stage, whether their shipment was received at a hub or terminal or is on final route to their travel destination.""This is a true benefit for the customer because we will be able to provide the status of the customer's shipment faster than before," said Durik, explaining that prior to the navigation system's installation into the trucks, the dispatcher needed to directly call the driver to get that answer. "Now it's all electronic," said Durik, adding that the customer can receive an advance e-mail alert when the truck enters the geofencing radius. "What this means is that if it is set to a 50 mile radius, the e-mail alert will provide a two hour notification, or if it's 30 miles, maybe a one hour notification of the delivery."GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. Customers will be able to use HaulBikes' tracking system without additional fees or set up charges.Since its founding in 1988, Daily Direct/HaulBikes, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin based company, has become a complete motorized sport equipment vehicle shipping specialist using expert care for motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles and jet skis.
