BMW Motorrad Motorsport: WEC Team Presentation 2008 - Dirt Rider Magazine

At the official team presentation for the World Enduro Championship (WEC) in Arma di Taggia nearSan Remo BMW Motorrad Motorsport presented its team to the press. The riders Anders Eriksson,Jean-Francois Goblet and Bert Meyer who had already been presented at the shows in Milan andMadrid were on disposal for photos and giving information about their sporting goals for this year tothe journalists. As a surprise the team presented Simo Kirssi as a further rider for the WEC. Thefactory rider will do not only the European Cross-Country-Championship, but also compete in theclassic enduro races.Being the first entire world championship year for the new BMW motosports project, BMWMotorrad head of motorsports Berti Hauser looks at the season 2008 as a year for gainingexperience. The goal of the team lead by Wolfgang Fischer (Team Manager) and Markus Theobald(Technical project manager) is to strengthen cooperation and constantly pushing technicaldevelopment. Junior Bert Meyer will try to establish in the international top field, doing this he willalso be able to benefit from Anders Eriksson's experience. Rookie Simo Kirssi as well will try to getas much experience as possible in enduro sports, however his focus will remain on cross countrysports. Jean-Francois Goblet will use his first year as a pro to get used to the four stroke enginewhich is completely new to him. In the second half of the season the team wants to be fit enough tobe able to score a top position here and there. In addition to the four factory riders Joel Smets willtake part in a couple of selected offroad events. Bert Meyer: age 20, single, living in Wei?enburg (Deutschland), greatest sucess: two timesEuropean Cross Country Champion. Starting in class EJ at the WEC series 2008.
Simo Kirssi: age 28, Finland, single, living in Wei?enburg (Deutschland), greatest success:European and German Cross Country Champion 2004, Winner of the Erzberg-Prologue and theopen class. Starting in class E2 at the WEC series 2008.
