Pastrana Supermotos
The wild man hits the pavement for the first time.During his trek to Los Angeles for the X Games, Travis Pastrana stopped off at Apex Raceway to give supermoto a go for the first time. Still nursing a recently injured knee, the king of extreme took it easy aboard a borrowed machine from road racing legend Kevin Schwantz. Team Suzuki along with Roger DeCoster was out suspension testing with Noleen when Pastrana dropped by.Dawned in a brand new set of leathers from Alpinestars, Pastrana warmed up and received some pointers from Schwantz. In typical Pastrana fashion, he returned with a grin and raved how much of a blast it is to ride a supermoto bike. After two sessions it looked like he was getting a hang of it but he realized it would take some time getting comfortable sliding a dirt bike with slicks on pavement. He hopes to go out again after he goes in for another knee surgery to repair his right knee. As of now, it looks as if Pastrana will not race the US Open and only plans to race a few events in '04, but that still depends on when he's 100 percent healthy. However, there is a good chance he may pull out his new thick this weekend at the X Games, a fully inverted twist. He's pulled the move off several times jumping into a foam pit but has yet to land the move onto solid ground. If he can do it, it could make a back flip look like a simple move.
