Jerry Robin's Day At Unadilla Motocross | MX 2016

Jerry Robin went 34-19 for 21st overall at round 10

Jerry Robin got the nod to turn pro by the Blue Buffalo/Slater Skins team owner Broc Schmelyun on the podium at the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Amateur National at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch last week after winning the 250 Allstars (A/B 14+) championship. Three days before Loretta’s Broc called Jerry to see if he would ride under the Blue Buffalo/ Slater Skins tent for Loretta’s with the possibility of a pro ride if everything went well.

Jerry Robin went 2-3-3 at Loretta’s to claim the 250 Allstars A/B (14+) championship last week. Jerry ran the Blue Buffalo shield for Broc Schmelyun at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National with a chance of getting a ride at the last three rounds of the Pro Motocross Series. On the podium Broc told Jerry to come to his trailer and talk about racing for him at Unadilla. Jerry came into Unadilla with only three weeks on the bike and the week at Loretta’s before making his pro debut. Jerry broke his back in February and was only able to race his area and regional before he was cleared to ride again. Jerry also had arm pump surgery done when he was laid up. Jerry said that his fitness was pretty bad when he started to ride again and he had to push through the 20-minute motos at Loretta’s. Jerry came into Unadilla with a free spirit and said it will be very tough to do the 30-minute plus 2. Jerry said that the group B practice was tough to get a good lap in but was able to turn a 2:38.336 for the 6th fastest time in group B.Photo by Rob Koy

Jerry was able to come through the pack on the first couple of laps until he stalled the bike on lap 4. Jerry said that it took him forever to get the bike started and he overheated himself on the hot and humid day at Unadilla. Jerry had to go into the mechanic’s area and get a drink of water so he could continue the race. Here, Jerry picks a smoother line off the face of this jump.Photo by Rob Koy

Jerry was able to complete the race in 34th place after going down a couple laps as he cooled off in the mechanic’s area. Many riders where complaining about the heat and humidity, and this was by far the hottest raceway of the year. Here, Jerry makes his way back to the start straight late in the moto.Photo by Rob Koy

Jerry had an outside gate for moto 2, and wheeled off the gate again for another poor start. Jerry was able to come through the pack by taking outside lines and found himself in 20th place by lap four. Jerry admitted that he was tired and struggling to finish the race, but his mechanic put on the board that he was close to scoring some points so that motivated him to charge at the end to get a couple points for 19th place.Photo by Rob Koy

Jerry robin went 34-19 for 21st overall and scored two points in his pro debut at Unadilla. Jerry said his goal this weekend was to be able to finish the races because he knew he was not in the shape that it takes to run this pace for 34 minutes. His goal for the rest of the season is to improve his fitness and race results each week and score more points.Photo by Rob Koy
