This week's POTW is perfect for the unseasonably cold weather we’ve been having in So Cal, and the seasonably cold weather the rest of the country is used to at this time of the year. Novik is pretty much a glove-only company and they offer their Cold-War Gloves for when you still want to ride in frigid temperatures.
Obviously there are plenty of gloves that can keep your digits warm but most are too bulky to wear while riding. The Cold-War Gloves retain the typical dimensions of a moto glove while blocking out the elements. There are hand-warmer pockets for those really cold days. The top of the glove is made of a wind-blocking material, but is still thin and stretchy. A cool feature is that the back of the thumb is covered in a terry material that is perfect for wiping goggles clear or to clean up runny nose.
The palm is what makes this glove really different from normal off-road gloves. It is a rubberized material that is water proof and grippy. The downside is that it doesn’t breath and when your hands start to sweat, they can start to slide inside the glove. This would have to be the only downside so far with these gloves. We’ve put a couple cold rides in with the Cold-War gloves and they are perfect for blocking the wind. It is surprising how well such a thin glove blocks out the cold.
The fit is a little loose; I normally wear a size large and these larges are a bit big. We'll keep riding with these to test the durability and get you the full test soon in the pages of Dirt Rider.
