Fuel injection has become more commonplace on two-stroke dirt bikes in the past seven years, but plenty retain carburetors. In the 250cc enduro and off-road segment, there are six smokers with Keihin PWK carburetors (either 36mm or 38mm), and Beta’s 250 RR inhales fuel and air via the former. At full tilt, its liquid-cooled two-stroke 249cc single-cylinder engine sends 39.7 hp and 27.2 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheel, according to Dirt Rider’s in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer.

“An extremely forgiving and broad powerband immediately stands out on the 250 RR,” test rider Casey Casper said. “There’s a reason a majority of the field utilize a traditional 66.4 x 72.0mm bore and stroke; this design simply works. Where modern 300 two-strokes can offer too much bark, the 250 RR and even 200 RR provide consumers an enticing middle ground of sorts.”
