How Much Power Does the 2024 GasGas EX 300 Make?

Dyno testing GasGas’ 300 cross-country racer for horsepower and torque.

From when it first hit the market in 2021 through the final year of its first generation in 2023, GasGas’ EX 300 featured transfer port injection (TPI). For 2024, the fun Austrian brand overhauled its largest-displacement two-stroke cross-country model, one of the most significant updates being the switch to throttle body injection (TBI).

In addition to impressing the lucky test riders who got to swing a leg over it, the EX 300 also performed admirably on the dyno. According to our very own in-house Dynojet 250i rear-wheel dynamometer, GasGas’ fuel-injected liquid-cooled two-stroke 293cc single-cylinder engine tuned for cross-country churns out peak numbers of 50.1 hp and 33.1 lb.-ft. of torque, which isn’t much less horsepower than some 450cc motocross bikes and a higher maximum torque figure than what the 2024 Kawasaki KX450 produces.

“This big-bore 300 two-stroke is precisely what some riders seek,” test rider Allan Brown said of the EX 300. “It’s noticeably more powerful than a 250cc smoker, but not uncontrollable like an older carbureted two-stroke engine. Compared to the previous TPI, advancements of the new TBI system mean a much more connected feel between the rider’s right hand and rear wheel.”
