Since its introduction in 2021, GasGas’ MC 250F has been a softer version of the KTM 250 SX-F and Husqvarna FC 250, both in power delivery and suspension feel. In the case of the former, this is due to its closed-off airbox and not featuring an optional vented airbox cover like the 250 SX-F and FC 250.
The difference in power between the fun Austrian brand’s quarter-liter four-stroke motocross bike and its model-equivalent Austrian cousins is seen on the Dirt Rider dyno as well. With a peak horsepower number of 39.5 hp, the MC 250F cranks out 0.7 hp and 0.9 hp less than the 250 SX-F and FC 250, respectively. It’s more competitive in maximum torque at 18.8 lb.-ft., which is 0.2 lb.-ft. more than the 250 SX-F and 0.2 lb.-ft. less than the FC 250.
“I like the softer nature of the MC 250F engine, but it could use more low-end power,” test rider Michael Wicker said. “This bike still shines when rpm is up. Also, it would be nice if GasGas included an engine map, traction control, launch control, and quick-shift module like the KTM 250 SX-F and Husqvarna FC 250, but it remains an optional accessory in 2025.”
