The various components on your machine require constant care and attention, without which they will end up with more barnacles than the underside of the Black Pearl-not good. Amsoil's Heavy-Duty Metal Protector is one way to keep your components working their best, as it provides a long-lasting, protective coating to whatever you spray it on. I found that the MP spray does more than its fair share of protecting, as the coating comes out thick and doesn't fl y off like other brands do. In fact, this is also my biggest complaint-this stuff is tougher to clean up than spray paint if you blast it in the wrong direction. Said to be "fortifi ed with special rust and corrosion inhibitors," the actual chemical component of the spray works really well against decay, and I became fond of using it as an after-wash chain lube whenever I fi nished drying off my bike. Like I said, the Protector is too tacky and messy to use on levers or footpegs, but the $6.60 setup is more than handy for tougher applications. -Chris Denison
