Orr Brake Pads
Maybe I'm just different, but I've always looked to the brakes as a point of modification to make my bikes even better. Yes, even before I would try to make a bike faster. I'd say I'm smarter, but try arguing that point! One thing I'm pretty sure I won't get an argument about is the different feels and performance levels from brake pads. After a great experience on a project bike I ordered up a second set of AP's ORR (Off-Road Racing) pads for my '02 KTM 400 EXC. Even with bleeding and running new stock pads I wasn't happy with the weak feel and marginal overall power of the front brake and the normally grabby rear brake.I installed the AP pads, flushed the system and refilled with AP's PRF brake fluid, and again was impressed. Even the aged brake system felt revived and strong. One finger on the front lever and you could lift the rear wheel off the ground going into turns, with control. The power builds linearly with lever pressure. The rear was less grabby, too. It was much more progressive and still strong. There was no noticeable fade under hard, continuous braking, and the durability seemed to be at least average. At $35.99 per set, these pads blow most performance-to-dollar increase ratios out the window. They really are that much better. -Jimmy Lewis
