GYTR 2010 YZ450 Power Tuner - Dirt Rider Magazine

Fuel injection has ushered in a new level of tuning. Call it plug and play. No more gas on the hands, trying to wedge the carb out of the frame and all that jazz. I like this future. And of all the tuners I have used, Yamaha has hit the nail on the head for a consumer-grade, easy-to-use effective tuner for the YZ450. It is a self-contained unit, takes a couple of AA batteries and plugs into the bike in seconds. It communicates with the bike's ECU and not only allows you to change the ignition and fuel map parameters, it also has some diagnostic views, too, showing run time, idle speed, air temp and rpm. Changing the map is simple and the unit is curtailed so you can't mess the bike up too much if you don't know what you are doing. It allows you to change nine areas in both fuel and ignition based on throttle position and rpm. Truthfully, it's like playing digital tic-tac-toe with the unit. Maps can be built away from the bike and stored, nine in total. Yamaha made it simple yet effective. You don't need a laptop, additional power and most half-minds won't be confused by the interface. Hooking it to the bike and changing the map takes less than a minute. And from our experience you can make the bike run quite a bit differently, just like changing the jetting and ignition timing manually, since that is exactly what you are doing. It is like having about 30 or more different pipes in a little blue box. And if you do change out the exhaust, this little gem can optimize the tuning for it. This is absolutely the best $280 you can spend on your YZ450. It should be the first mod you do and used to complement any other. -Jimmy Lewis
